At Tameside & Glossop we support a diverse range of parents and parents-to-be.
If you have any comments or suggestions about how to make the service more inclusive and understanding of your status, please get in contact with your midwife and tell them what you need. You can also give feedback to the Maternity Voices Partnership which is a great way of letting us know what needs attention, to make everyone’s experience excellent.
Transgender and non-binary parents
We welcome the transmen and non-binary birthing people who will use our services. Your right to identify however you wish will be respected and your pronouns will be used if you tell us early on what you prefer. We want to support you however you prefer, so please let us know how you wish to be addressed and if there is any terminology you would prefer to be used in your care. We are committed to understanding what you need and strive for giving you the most informed care possible.
Lesbian parents
However you or your partner became pregnant, we will always respect your status as a couple. As you may be aware, if you are in a civil partnership or married when your baby is born, you will both be registered as your child’s legal parents. If you are not in a civil partnership or married, the parent who did not birth the child will need to adopt the child to be a legal parent.
