Giving up smoking is tough but it’s one of the most important things you can do to keep your baby safe and healthy.
Smoking at home can greatly increase the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death) for your baby. It is also not advised to share a bed with your baby even if you don’t smoke in the bedroom.
According to scientific evidence around 30% of sudden infant deaths could be avoided if mothers didn’t smoke when they were pregnant. The risk of smoking around a baby at home, means that smoking could be linked to 60% of sudden infant deaths.
It’s important to keep your baby in a smoke free space at home, and in the car. If you are visiting friends or relatives, make sure they don’t smoke near your baby.
If you or your partner smoke and want to quit, there is lots of help and support available at Tameside and Glossop.
